Well Test Engineer

The Well Test Engineer role forms part of a team that is responsible and accountable for all aspects of Well Test operations and activities covering planning, equipment, personnel and third party equipment. Ensuring the overall Safety of drilling well test operations is a primary responsibility.

Typical duties

  • Supports day to day Well Intervention Operations and plans routine Well Test Programmes in line with company, safety and industry standards
  • Ensures data is collected accurately and presented professionally to achieve a high quality report for the Operator
  • Liaises with Production Operations Supervisors to ensure they are fully aware of offshore/onshore operations
  • Compiles end of job reports to required standard in a timely and efficient manner
  • Attends pre and post-test meetings with the Operator when required
  • Assists with the onshore organisation associated with packing and shipping offshore materials and equipment
  • Reports any breaches of safety procedures to supervision / management
  • Actively participates in and promotes company health and safety campaigns, policies and procedures, and ensures personal safety and that of colleagues at all times

In the industry

Works closely with drilling engineering and completions teams, to drill for oil and gas in new or existing fields. Well Test Engineers can be employed onshore or offshore, and are typically hired by specialist drilling and well services companies that provide contracted services to the operating companies. Well Test Engineers play an essential role in the drilling and production process by ensuring that the wells are fully and safely operational.

Entry requirements:

  • HND / BTEC or Degree or equivalent in Petroleum Engineering or equivalent
  • Basic offshore induction and emergency training (BOSIET)
  • Offshore Medical Certificate
  • OPITO Minimum Industry Safety Standards (MIST)
