Offshore Helideck Assistant

Offshore Helideck Assistants work as part of an offshore logistics team and are responsible for supporting the landing and departure of routinely scheduled helicopters carrying personnel and cargo offshore to installations, drilling rigs or vessels in a safe and timely manner.  A primary responsibility is for ensuring all aspects of health and safety compliance and reporting are met.

Typical duties

  • Assists in the preparation of pre-mobilization installation preparations, including, fitting safety signs, marking escape routes, fitting station bills and safety plans around the platform
  • Works as part of the team that supports the safe landing of Helicopters offshore in various weather conditions
  • Forms part of the Emergency Response Team Ensures that general deck crew duties are carried out safely in line with operations and Health and Safety policies and procedures
  • Carries out routine maintenance of deck equipment
  • Works in the team responsible for freight and cargo movements, loading and unloading helicopter freight in a safe and timely manner
  • Ensures helicopter refuelling takes place in safe and timely manner
  • Reports any breaches of safety procedures to installation supervision / management
  • Carries out Banksman-slinger duties, ensuring safety in crane, rigging and slinging operations, as required
  • Reports any breaches of safety procedures to supervision / management
  • Actively participates in and promotes company health and safety campaigns, policies and procedures, and ensures personal safety and that of colleagues at all times

Offshore Helideck Assistants play a key role in supporting the logistics associated with offshore production installations. Helicopter travel for offshore requirements forms a large part of the industry requirements and it is essential that landings and take-offs are carried out in a safe manner to ensure the safety of all personnel involved. Offshore Helideck Assistants are employed by a range of companies including Engineering Contractors, Drilling Contractors and specialist facilities management companies. The role will involve shift work, which may have early starts and late finishes.
