Geoscience Data Analyst

Geoscience Data Analysts provide support to a team of Geoscientists in the processing, analysis, interpretation and presentation of Geoscience data.  A range of specialist software systems are used to produce presentations and technical documentation which is used in determining potential new reserves of oil and gas, and for getting as much oil or gas out of existing fields as possible.

Typical duties

  • Manages on a daily basis Geosciences data (interpretation studies, reference data bases) including loading, organsing, quality control, editing, formatting and managing access rights
  • Performs searches and provides or produces inventories of the relevant Geosciences information and data knowledge
  • Applies and respects company policies, procedures, standards and rules (naming conventions, organisation, workflows and confidentiality) to ensure data flow quality and adherence to deadlines
  • Prepares confidential data packages for Round Applications or Data Rooms and liaises with internal teams and third parties
  • Liaises with Geoscience and Exploration teams or third parties (IT, Head Office, Specialist Vendors) for dedicated applications support
  • Promotes knowledge, understanding and improvement of Geosciences data management usage
  • Uses a range of specialist Geosciences technical software, analytical tools, and Microsoft Office suite
  • Reports any breaches of safety procedures to supervision / management
  • Actively participates in and promotes company health and safety campaigns, policies and procedures, and ensures personal safety and that of colleagues at all times

In the industry

Works closely with other technical departments including Geophysics, Petrophysics, Geology and Reservoir Engineering to find and extract oil and gas from existing fields as well as searching for potential new targets. Also works closely with the Commercial department. Mainly employed by Operators or Geoscience Consultancy firms. Play a key role in the gathering, analysis and presentation of geosciences data in relation to Licencing Application rounds and company data rooms.

Entry requirements:

  • Degree in Geosciences or Data management disciplines with significant years professional experience or significant work experience in an oil/gas exploration or production environment
  • Good knowledge of geosciences data and Information Systems
  • Very good knowledge of databases and data models.
