Drilling Supervisor

Drilling Supervisors are responsible for managing operational activities related to drilling, workover, and/or well completions carried out by contractors / services companies on a drilling rig.  This includes following up the proper implementation of various operational programs, e.g. drilling, workover, completion, logging, testing etc. In addition Drilling Supervisors will review and propose amendments to approved programs in response to changing operational parameters.  

About this role

Typical duties

  • Ensures that all operations on the rig site are carried out in accordance with contract provisions and in line with Company safety, environment and loss prevention policies, rules and regulations
  • Responsible for the safe and effective delivery of the well program
  • Supervises drilling rig personnel, anyone visiting the well site as well as 3rd party subcontractors
  • Leads HSE activities and ensures that relevant safety programs are supported
  • Manages the activities of contractors and service providers during well operations
  • Acts as the focal point of communication between well site and office-based operations team
  • Follows up supply activities of Company materials and equipment to ensure effective utilisation
  • Drafts the drilling/workover morning report summarizing all rig activities in the previous 24 hours
  • Reports any breaches of safety procedures to management
  • Actively participates in and promotes company health and safety campaigns, policies and procedures, and ensures personal safety and that of colleagues at all times
  • Provides support as part of the drilling emergency response team

In the industry

Works closely with drilling engineering and completions teams, to drill for oil and gas in new or existing fields. Drilling Supervisors can be employed onshore or offshore, and are typically hired by specialist drilling and well services companies that provide contracted services to the operating companies. Drilling Supervisors play an essential role in the drilling and production process by managing drilling teams and ensuring that the wells are fully and safely operational.

Requirements

Entry requirements:

  • HND / BTEC or Degree or equivalent in Petroleum Engineering or equivalent Plus relevant courses in drilling and blow out prevention methods
  • 5 years experience in drilling and workover activities
  • Basic offshore induction and emergency training (BOSIET)
  • Offshore Medical Certificate
  • OPITO Minimum Industry Safety Standards (MIST)
