Construction Supervisor

Construction Supervisors are responsible for completing construction projects by planning, organising, and controlling projects, completing quality inspections and supervising sub-contractors and staff.  Construction projects may include the development major new production installations or modifications to existing production installations, both onshore and offshore.

Typical duties

  • Meets construction budget by monitoring project expenditures, identifying variances and implementing corrective actions
  • Provides regular reports on actual project progress against the project plan and schedule
  • Selects, trains and supervises a team of Trades personnel in the delivery of construction projects
  • Manages sub-contractors by locating, evaluating, and selecting sub-contractors, and monitoring and controlling their performance
  • Meets operational standards by contributing construction information to strategic plans and reviews
  • Implements production, productivity, quality, and customer-service standards
  • Resolves problems and identifies construction management system improvements
  • Works in a safe manner at all times, ensuring that the permit to work system is followed
  • Reports any breaches of safety procedures to supervision / management
  • Actively participates in and promotes company health and safety campaigns, policies and procedures, and ensures personal safety and that of colleagues at all times

Constructions Supervisors fulfil a key role in the successful delivery of offshore and onshore construction projects. They are found in a variety of organisations including major Engineering Contractors, Drilling Contractors, Construction and Fabrication Specialists, service companies and equipment suppliers. They may be based onshore in a workshop or a construction yard, or offshore on a platform or drilling rig.

Entry requirements:

  • Relevant Trade Apprenticeship or equivalent e.g. in fabrication or welding
  • Previous experience of supervising construction projects
  • Basic offshore induction and emergency training (BOSIET)
  • Offshore Medical Certificate
  • OPITO Minimum Industry Safety Standards (MIST)
  • Strong IT skills
  • Good organisation/administration skills
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Good attention to detail/produces accurate work
