What is the aim of IYF?

It is a project geared to inspiring young people between the ages of 14 -17 to pursue a career within the oil and gas industry. There has been a lot of negative press surrounding the sector and it is up against a lot of competition for talent from other industries like renewables. Many oil companies have their own education programmes which focus on recruiting for a particular organisation; the IYF project represents the image of the industry as a whole.

What does IYF involve?

Young ambassadors from industry visit schools armed with a promotional DVD, a presentation about their oil and gas story and a set of classroom activities. All the materials focus on oil and gas, the breadth of careers available in the industry and interesting facts about the sector. Each ambassador is also free to promote their own company as part of their visit.

Who organises IYF?

OPITO provides a training day for each cohort of ambassadors. We also take care of organising the school visits and make sure each ambassador is provided with the materials and support that they need.

How can IYF benefit your organisation?

If you don't already have a company-wide education programme:
The IYF project can provide you with one. We have all the school contacts and the information packs ready for you to use, we will set up all the visits, all you need to provide are committed ambassador volunteers. Although our materials are generic to the industry, you can also use the visits to promote your own company and the opportunities within it.

If you do already have a company-wide education programme:
You may prefer to use the framework you already have in place. We completely understand that you may want to make your company the focus of any visits you make. We do ask though that you show our 3 1/2 minute DVD at the beginning of your session to help include representation of the industry as a whole.

IYF as a CSR tool:

Supporting the IYF project is a great opportunity to inject some CSR into your strategies by helping OPITO assert a positive image for the industry as a whole. We do need your help to do this.

IYF as a CPD tool:

The project will give young industry employees the opportunity to network with their peers and learn about the industry as a whole. It will also enable them to practise presentation skills and give them the chance to represent their industry in a positive way.
